I have a system with the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe Mobo that has been operating normally for 18 months. Recently I have been having intermittent problems with USB devices. I plugged in a Dazzle media reader and I got the High speed device in low speed usb error. I also tried to use a MuVo slim player. It it could not recognize the device. When I unplugged the unit the system crashed to the blue screen of death and I had to do a complete XP Pro system restore.
The system is stable with devices like a thumb drive, printer and keyboard. I tried the MuVo once and the system crashed. The MuVo works fine on my other Win2000 Machine.
A reboot brought the system back but am looking for help before I crash it big time again.

Is it possible for the USB to get zapped causing instability?

You have a limited amount of power available for USB devices. I have a Logitech 4000 Webcam, a MS Explorer Wireless mouse, a Lexmark all-in-one, and a Logitech 3Dpro joystick plugged into mine. Daughter tried to plug in IPOD and no go! TOO MUCH DRAW message. I put a 7 port Belkin powered USB hub in and all's well.

Abit IS7 - 3.0C @ 3.6ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot

Thanks for the tip. I just hooked up a new Belkin and it works with all devices.

As to the computer ports, only on set of my USB ports works at high speed. The other gives the high speed device in low speed USB type of message. Not sure if something is damaged there or it is a configuration problem.

For now I'll stick with what I've got and see if anyone sends any other info.

Thanks again - Paul
