ASUS P4C800deluxe & P4cpu:What Is MAX P4?

Greetings Everyone,
Current mobo:Asus P4C 800 Deluxe . Current CPU:Intel P4 2.8C 800fsb (northwood), 478 socket. Mobo manual states 3.2mhz is the highest cpu you can have in this mobo. Does anyone know for certain what the highest mhz & fastest P4 cpu w/800fsb can be installed with this mobo ???

Max you can install is P4 3.4C(Northwood),3.4E(Prescott),3.4EE.(Gallatin). GL

Instead of starting a redundant thread figured I would post here because it’s right on topic 😀

I also have a P4C800 Deluxe with a P4 2.8 but mine is a Prescott. I would like to upgrade to the 3.4. I found that same list Grimmy posted over at the ASUS site where I also made a similar post. Out of the four 3.4's listed which one is the best or how can I compare them?

P4-3.40 GHz (800 FSB, L2 cache:1MB, rev.G1)

P4-3.40 GHz (800 FSB, L2 cache:512KB, HT, D1)

P4-3.40 GHz Extreme Ed. (Socket478, 800 FSB, HT)

P4-3.40E GHz (800 FSB, L2 cache:1MB, HT, 90nm)



Additionally I have another question about RAM. I am running XP home which is a 32bit OS. The way I understand it is that my P4C800 Deluxe can only use 4GB RAM max. Is this correct?

I am currently running 2GB RAM (4x512MB, 2 dual channel kits). I would like to max out my RAM. To the best of my knowledge any RAM onboard a Video Card also counts towards this 4GB max. Right? If so which option or combination is best? Getting a 1GB Video Card and 3GB RAM, or just going ahead and putting 4gigs of RAM in along with the 1GB Video Card?

At one time there was a chart at the ASUS site that listed the tested recommended RAM for the P4C800 Deluxe which I can not find. I would like to be able to find a similar list. Any ideal where to look? I have been searching for this and a few other things over the past few days with little luck.

Actually I think your mobo can support a max of 8GB. I have the P4P800 in my old machine which was a step down from yours and it can support 8GB max.

As for the CPU, IF you can find it the Pentium 4 EE 3.4GHz with 2MB of L3 cache is a great one. I have it in my old system and its fast for a single core.

But chances of finding it are very rare and your better bet is to build a new PC.

Originally the P4C800 Deluxe wasn’t even made for Prescott’s and the max processor you could put on it was a 3.2 Socket 478. Thanks to BIOS updates the largest Socket 478 it can hold is a 3.4 now. I can get a used 3.4 for around $50... no big deal even for the slight increase in power.

The processor you mentioned isn’t on the recommended list so its kind of pointless looking into it. I am having trouble figuring out more details on the four 3.4's that ASUS does suggest. They provided just enough info to get my mouth watering but leave out things like if they are a Northwood or a Prescott, one doesn’t even mention the cache size. It's these details the ASUS site has left out that I am trying to piece together.

As far as I know the my motherboard only supports 4GB RAM according to the book that came with it, but the book also says 3.2 is the max processor, kind of out of date. I do not know if a BIOS update can make a mother board increase its RAM capacity. The ASUS site does not indicate that.
