have a asus p5a-b nad tried a k6-3+ 450
the bios read mmx 450 mhz processor - no amd notation
did not perform well. benchmark on norton's about 60
put the regular k6-3 400 in and it ran fine (nortons at 190)
put the k6-3+ in my other desktop (acorp ali561) and runs
great. does anyone know if award has a bios flash to fix this on my asus board?

I am using Asus P5A w/o audio with latest bios and K63+. CPU detected only as MMX 500 (450 o/c to 500). Using the Norton SI benchmark as a hopefull gage of increased performance from K63 400, I noted improvement from 165 to 201. Experienced random lockups and loss of network connectivity??? Raised voltage from 2.0 - 2.1 and no further lockups but network was not visible? Anyone know of more recent Bios than ali5107a? Thanks!

Just a suggestion, don't use norton as a system or cpu benchmark. I had a K6-2 500 norton only gave me 150 points. I had a K6-III 450 and norton only gave me 180 points. Now I have a Duron 600 and norton only gives me 200 points. The norton's graph for this so-called benchmark has a Pentium II 450 as 205 points. The K6-III450 should be the same as the PII 450 and the Duron 600 should be way higher.
I think the norton's benchmark is setup to only test Intel processors and chipsets.
When using Sandra's SiSoft, my motherboard and memory is benched faster than a 1GHz PIII. My ATA66 HD is benched about 15% faster than their base ATA66 HD. And my 600 Duron benches faster than a Celeron 600.
With a Geforce 256 DDR I get 4600 points on 3DMark.
There is no way that my Duron 600 is only equal to a PII 450!!!!!
Try a different benchmark.

most recent bios that i know is 1011.002 beta
on the german website for asus. i have a couple questions
for you. what is the version # of your p5a, what bios version, and any other useful info? ive been on amdzone.com with about 60 others with problems with the k63+. email me - haydeen177@aol.com and let me know. also check out the amdzone.com site re:k6x family processors in the forum - lots of good info
thanks
btw - from what we can tell p5ab v 1.05 and p5a v 1.06 are not compatible with the 3+ processors - just want to know yours so we can verify all the cases
