The only difference that I could find is all the caps are now solid and the pcb is black. Other than that I was not able to find any thing else.

It should serve you well as a gaming platform.

Thanks,

Just ordered e4300 with Supreme Commander from Clubit for $118.50 shipped.

Looking at this Corsair memory from zipzoomfly for $89.90 shipped.

Will these, with the P5B-Plus be a decent core base starter C2D system?
The processor and ram will probably morph into a HTPC by the first of the year when I hopefully go Quad Core with this board.

Are you looking to overclock?

Probably play around with it, on air, but nothing seriously. I'll be coming from an XP 2500, so just getting a new system will seem fast enough. My gaming curve is usually 2 years behind. Playing HL2, C2Duty2, Doom3, BF2142 (slowly), Quake4, FarCry, FEAR etc. No WOW or Oblivion, nothing like that.

The memory you found is a really good deal although it is 675 and 800 would suit you better for overclocking.

Thanks again, I might do that. Is there that much diff between 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-12 Corsair??

Diff in price is $20 for the 4.

Yes will make a slight difference.

I went ahead and ordered the following:

e4300 Retail + Sup. Commander game - $118.50 - Clubit.com
Asus P5B-Plus - $131.50 - Mwave
Corsair XMS TWIN2X2048-6400C4 - $112.50 AR - Mwave

Shipping was $9.21 with Mwave but I had a $10 discount to apply.
Total after rebate is $361.71

I'll play around with OC'ing a little and then build an HTPC later with the e4300, XFX 7600gs (laying around) and a mATX board later when I update to Quad around XMAS.

Thanks again.

I know that you said nothing serious regarding overclocking, but it may be worth you money to invest in a better HSF. It doesn't have to be anything too extravegant, just something better than stock. Just to protect your investment, give it a little longevity. Especially since you'd like to use it in a HTPC later on. With a good enough cooler, you might not even need a fan if you run at stock clocks (which is all you would need to run a HTPC), where silence is a key issue for HTPC's.

I am intrigued by this board also. I looked for info on it but found little. Anyone have any idea how it would compare to the Gigabyte DS3? Or better put would it be at least as good as the DS3 for OC'ing? I am pretty new to all of this but I have read extensively about the DS3 and was planning on getting it but if this P5B-Plus is at least as good I think I would prefer it for the e-sata alone.

Anyone have any thoughts or could point me to more info on the P5B-Plus I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Ive just ordered this board from newegg. I was gonna try to pick up the DFI 965-s until I saw my good friend hit 504 fsb with this without breaking a sweat.
