Hi everyone.
I just purchased and put together a box with a P4 3.4 on an Asus p5gd2 board. It boots up and shuts down after a few seconds. On some occassions I can actually see the Asus splash screen, other times I can't even get that far. I unplugged everything and booted up with the same result. Reset CMOS, same results. I'm not sure what else to try.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

1.Remove any add-in card and devices from the board. (all except VGA)
2.make sure you use a proper power supply and memory.
3.use a recommended memory, listed on the asus website for this board.
3.try to update the bios to the latest version.

hope this could help.

It sounds like either the CPU overheating OR the board not detecting the cooling fan. Make sure the cooling fan is plugged into the right header, and if it is, recheck the heatsink mounting.

Its probably heating up. My board doesnt doesnt shut down it just gives warining beeps when it doesbt detect a CPU fan Ive gotten in a hurry a few times and fired my system up without plugging my pumps in and it wont fully boot into windows before heat shuts it down.

THANK YOU!!

Yes, it was overheating! As well placed as it looked, the fan/heatsink was not locking into the board properly. After messing with it and snapping it into place, it turns on and stays on.

Thanks again!

No problem, this is a very common thing with this platform. What are your Idle temps and temps under load?
