Asus p5k deluxe wi/fi bios boot problem

Hello all, I've read many posts on a thread with similar problems but not exactly my issue. I am putting together a sys with this mobo, an nvidia 9500gt 1gig, e7500 core 2 duo and 1x2gig ddr2-800. Problem is that I can't get into BIOS at all. Everything is new (incl Power supply) except the mobo, but its from a very reliable source with very little use so I suspect I am doing something wrong. I am also using a p/s 2 k/b as I know usb k/b can case a prob at boot.

With only mem in slot A1, processor, video card and k/b installed, this is what I get on screen when I press DEL on bootup OR WHEN I DON'T PRESS DEL; One beep only then at top of screen I get the AMI LOGO, Tells me I have ACPI bios REV 0300, and it sees the cpu ok with all specs and details.
In middle of screen, all I get is: Press f8 for bbs popup. Press alt f2 for Asus ez Flash, ddr2-800 in single-channel mode, Initializing usb controllers..done and on the last line 2048 mb OK
At the bottom of the screen: American Megatrends Inc then under that:
65-0311-000001-052507-bearlake-A071001-y2kc

That's it, it won't go any further, pressing f8 or alt-f2 or del does nothing. I can't get into asus ez flash by using alt+f2 either. I was going to flash the bios. I have cleared the cmos ram via the normal procedure also to no avail. Any help appreciated people. I am at a standstill here. Wha am I doing wrong. best wishes, Ward

It seems you're not pressing DEL fast enough and it's passing the point that allows you to get into BIOS.

Thanks for the suggestion Hundredislandboy but I've been building computers for 30 years and was a mainframe tech back in the day when we still had mainframes. I don't think that's it because it won't go into ez-flash either or f8 bbs popup menu either, but thanks.

Don't mean to go for the simple things that might be wrong but I don't understand this problem why it won't go into the BIOS.

Check the DEL key on the keyboard is functional?

Hi hundredislands boy, I'm using a ps2 kb of course because I'm aware of the USB kb issues where they are sometimes not recognized at boot. I've tested it with another pc so I know its fine. I've built arouny 30 PC's that's why I am confused here, it doesn't make sense. BUT, I did find another thread here from jreay with Exactly the same problem, frozen at the same place This is his screen. Mine is the same except of course different ram and processor and a p5e3 mobo. It seemed that no one solved his problem so I have emailed him for info re the resolution of his problem. Not sure if he will reply as he is not a frequent poster/


Stuck at the AMI screen still.

Disconnect everything except PSU, CPU/HSF, video card, 1 RAM chip, hard drive, and power switch. Try booting with just those components.

Aford10 my good friend, please please read my first post before you comment again and you will see that that is just what I did. I am a computer engineer from a mainframe background ( I was also an Apple tech services manager) and I had a computer in my home before the word PC existed although I don't work in this area anymore. If I get to the point where I need to post in a forum its because the problem is not a common one. The problem here is that I don't have 2 of everything to enable me to do a quick 50/50 split diagnosis. I was simply hoping that someone had seen this situation and could save me time faultfinding. I know you said it came from a trusted source, but my gut is telling me it's the motherboard.

These are the the only three things I could think of:

1. Based on the CPU reading (speed), the BIOS was so corrupt before you even got the board that it doesn't react to the DEL key. Or, did all this start happening after you flashed the BIOS?

2. If the videocard is in the second slot, it might be "confusing" the motherboard.

3. try one stick 667 RAM with lower voltage, why DDR 3? I thought this was DDR2 board?

I don't know if this makes sense at all but if I understand correctly the BIOS is very old compared to the processor that you have installed, so maybe the BIOS does not even support it. I guess that a solution would be to find another processor (older than the BIOS), put it on, update the BIOS and then install the regular one.
