Asus P5K Deluxe WIFI: Memory Issues

I recently purchased a Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 and a Asus P5k Deluxe with WIFI. I assembled it and it runs fine but I have 2x512 DDR2 ram on the board but windows and the bios says that it detects 256mb. I haven't changed any voltage settings or anything else other than the memory remap. I have windows xp 32bit. I was just wondering if this is normal or would I have to change certain settings in the bios to get it to use the rest of the ram?

Well, the bios shouldn't be recognizing only 25% of the ram in your system, regardless. Try moving them about and play musical ram sticks, while it's unplugged of course. You may have bad ram or an error in your bios. You also may try flashing the bios, but I only recommend doing that as your last resort, as it's possible to do it improperly and waste the board.

Do some testing on it see if you can figure it out. You may need to do some RMA-ing.
