Asus p5kc ddr2 to ddr3

I'm wondering if there is any prep involved when changing from ddr2 ram to ddr3. The p5kc has 4 ddr2 slots and 2 ddr3 slots. I have had the same patriot 2gb x 2 sticks since 2008. There is nothing wrong with them but the old friend who built this PC back then had a x32 OS installed when the CPU is x64 compatible and I've just installed Windows 10 x64 and would like to make it a bit snappier.

In cases like that you can use only one type of RAM. No mixing DDR2 and 3.

I m not looking to mix I'm just wondering if it is as easy as just removing the ddr2 and sticking in the ddr3.

As long as you put them in right slots. Reset BIOS/CMOS in between changes so BIOS can recognize them.
