Thank you for reading my post. I am attempting to build my first computer with limited finances. Not sure if I am learning correctly and would like some advice. Here is what I am thinking of buying and would appreciate any comments or input. Thank you.

Im an Intel man myself, but the faster and cheaper systems are AMD. Having said that, if your going with Intel you should consider a different CPU. The 775's have heat issues. I have one myself. I am pleased with it, but you mentioned that your finances are limited. The problem here is that you will probably need to spend more than you currently are planning for in order to get a cooling system for the 775. The only reason that I can see going with the 775 is if you were getting one of the faster CPU's. The Northwood core by Intel is a much cooler CPU and you can probably build the same basic system cheaper with it. It would also most likely be a better candidate for Overclocking if you chose to later. Check out the prices on an Abit IS7 MOBO and an Intel P4 in a Northwood core. Even the Socket 478 would be a better choice unless your willing to sink another @200.00 into a liquid cooling setup.

To save us both time, assume I know EVERYTHING

I agree with Mozz. The 3.0C and IS7 is a great combo. The value leader though is a socket 754 - A64-3000+ combo. I don't see any gain in going socket 775 at the moment.

Abit IS7 - 3.0C @ 3.6ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot

Have you seen any of the 2005 Road Maps for Intel this year. There sticking with the 775, but doing some interesting new things. They think that they have part of the heat problem knocked down somewhat. The part that I am referring to is going to involve the MOBO makers however. My Asus has a pad built into the back of the MOBO its just big enough to extend beyond the CPU and the parts close to the CPU that get so hot. Especially on the left side. It is suppose to offer another 10% reduction off the top..

Soem of the CPU that are coming out will have the new 2MB L2Cashe.
