Hi all,

Looking to dust my P5Q Pro Turbo (with a Q9550) off and I'd like to use an SSD to make things faster. Is it compatible?

Here's what the mobo manual says :

Intel® ICH10R Southbridge:
- 5 x SATA 3.0 Gb/s ports
- Intel® Matrix Storage Technology with RAID 0,1, 5, and 10 support
JMicron® JMB361 SATA & PATA controller
- 1 x Ultra DMA 133/100/66 for up to 2 PATA devices
- 1 x External SATA 3.0 Gb/s port (SATA On-the-Go)
Silicon Image Sil5723 (Drive Xpert technology)
- 2 x SATA 3Gb/s ports
- Supports EZ Backup and Super Speed functions
*Drive Xpert function is available only when the hard disk drives are set as data drives.

This article says it's ok to use 3gb/s SATA for a SSD (not much speed loss). I'm wondering if the SSD will be compatible/recognized by mobo? Anything I should be aware of?

P.S.: The PC will be used for Spotify, netflix, web browsing, Youtube... no gaming.

Should work fine. I bought my first SSD when I was still using Core2. It will only work at SATA 2 ( 3Gb/s ) speeds though. So there will be a bottleneck but it will still be many times faster than a platter drive.

Yes it will jsut make sure you update your BIOS to its newest version, i just got this motherboard with a q6600 and a new kingston 240gb ssd didnt wanna boot on it, you have to go into storage configuration in BIOS and then set your configure SATA setting to AHCI. This is how i got my ssd to work

I didn't know that and was gonna try setting the PC up this weekend. Thanks for letting me know it'll save me some trouble :)
