Well finally got everything set and started to play with the OC.
All voltages set on the min (not auto) setting except

Vcore at 1.2
Dram 1.62

due to multipier issues running at 1440 with 7 7 7 19

Turbo on OFF

Bclk on 180
at 3.6 (Cpu Mult @ 20) temps idle at around 42 with load at 64 (with all fans on silent) and about 40 and 61 with all fans on max.

Guess I could play with the CPU mult and bclk to get the ram speed closer to 1600 but i could always underclock a bit and run tighter.

so far stable on all the different Prime95 test each for a few hours.

Any suggestions on this issue or changes?



better to run bclk at 200 and then scale back the multiplier so that I can run the ram at 1600? what other modifications would I have to make?

Can you tell me all the settings I should change to get 3.6 also?Like if everything is setup to defult, where do I go from there?

From what I have read, it is pointless to try to tune the ram, either for speeds or latencies. The i7 onboard memory controller does a fine job of feeding data to the cpu.
Real application perf0rmance like FPS or application run times(vs. synthetic benchmarks) are minimally impacted by ram speeds or timings. We are looking at numbers like 1-3%.

thanks for the info... you figure I will shoot for stability over pushing it.


Settings wise: I just inputed the minimium voltages of each category except the ones I listed to start with. If you just put in what I have up there you should easily hit it. if it BSOD or wont post or something... up Vcore a little at a time

loosen the ram timings to something you think your ram will run.

v2 motherboard is very easy to oc. just change your bclk to 180. leave every else to auto. you will see 3.6ghz.

Temperature is OK. Intel's specs:

Vcore Max 1.375
Tcase Max (CPU temp) 68c
Tjunction (Core temp) 73c

If you're within specs, is there any benefit to keeping the CPU cooler? If I can keep my core at under 70c under load and my fans are whisper quiet, is there any benefit to cranking up the fans to keep it at 60c?

I hate noise, so my OC limit is set by what I can get with my fans quiet.

Since stability is enfluenced by temperatures, the overclocking community typically prefers cool over quiet, which also provides headroom for increases in ambient temperature as well as dust accumulation. However, if your rig operates in a controlled environment and is stable, then customizing your overclock and cooling settings to Prime at 70c core temperature is certainly reasonable.
