Hi,
I have an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Motherboard
1st generation core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
12Gb of Ram

I want to upgrade my Gainward Golden sample 550ti graphics card.

Which card would be best?
I was looking at a NVidia 770 or 780 card.
Am I right in thinking the 780ti would be overkill for my system?

Thank you in advance for any help

770<780<780ti. At stock clocks, you might bottleneck the 780ti with your CPU. On the plus side, you can always reuse it when you upgrade the CPU and motherboard. What is your upgrade budget? Might be able to come up with a more balanced approach that includes new CPU and Motherboard as well.

thx for looking to that for me I appreciate it. but for now its just a VGA upgrade I want to go with.

I too have a P6T Deluxe and am looking to upgrade, completely upgrade that is. Though recently I have come across some data that makes me consider an alternative.

Some folks out there have succeeded at supporting 48Gbs of RAM on the P6T's, now I am unclear on bottleneck potential with the 1st gen I7's but even so:

What is the feasibility of upping my RAM above 12gb, getting a new GPU and overclocking my CPU in order to keep on gaming until 2016(or longer) before upgrading my rig?

My Specs:
ASUS P6T Deluxe
I7 940 2.93Ghz
Radeon HD 4870
12Gb DDR3 1333 Tri. Chan.
