Hello

I have installed 3 x 2GB Kingston KVR1066D3N7 RAM modules in the DIMM_A1, DIMM_B1 and DIMM_C1 sockets of my P6T motherbord.

Now I want to expand with 1 x 2GB Kingston KVR1066D3S8N7.

According to the manual it should by installed in DIMM_A2 [see http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6T/#support, P6T user’s manual(English)].

But instead of increasing the total memory by 2GB it actually decreases it by 2GB.

What is wrong? The memory configuration or the combination of modules?

Thank you for helping.

Thank you for your response.

However, the manual proclaims (p. 2-11) that "You may install varying sizes in Channel A, Channel B and Channel C" and it even has (on the same page) a table showing how to populate the DIMMs in cases with 2, 3, 4 and 6 moduels.

How do you explain that if your answer is correct?

Because you can use less than Tri-channel ram but you can't expect to populate tri-channel on one of the channels and then insert a single ram and have the system just add 2G to the total ram. Look at your manual and see what it says it will do with the ram.

Thank you for setting me straight.

So have I just learned that my motherboard will not accept 8GB RAM (assuming blocks of 2GB). As I understand you, I will have to install (again assuming blocks of 2GB) 12GB to get at 8GB (and thus actually getting 12GB)?

Installing in Tri-Channel is not a must. Check the manual it does show that you can add two modules or four modules but it should be done in the right order.

Try installing in DIMM A1, DIMM A2, DIMM B1 and DIMM C1. Also make sure all the memory modules are installed properly inserted.

Let us know how it works out. #goodluck

Missed that part!!

How about slot DIMM B2 instead of DIMM C1?
