Hello everyone,

I have a ASUS P6X58D-e and wish to get a SSD drive soon however I hear that the marvell controller built in is terrible. Does anybody have a SATA 3 Controller card they use with this particular motherboard that has provided a significant performance boost compared to the built in marvell and intel controllers? I'm having difficulty finding one online.

Thanks!

Welcome to Tom's Forum! :)

The Marvell itself isn't terrible as much as it's limiting; the Marvell 912X craps-out 370MB/s~390MB/s. This is because the Marvell 912X uses (x1) PCIe lane.

Next for SSD's >390MB/s (R/W) it's probably cheaper to get a new MOBO e.g. G1 Series or GA-X58A-OC with Marvell 918X (x2) PCIe lanes.

Otherwise the LSI RAID Cards with at least x4~x8 PCIe lanes; see -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006519%2050001833%2040000410&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&SrchInDesc=6Gb%2Fs&Page=1&PageSize=20
