Hi,

I just started a build for my little brother who doesn't have much money to spend. So I was searching through a second hand site and find quite a sweet deal on a motherboard, cpu and ram. However the owner said it came out of a pc that wouldn't turn on anymore, however I took the risk. Now I found that both the CPU and ram (A xeon x3440 and 8gb of ddr3) work just fine. However the motherboard gave a funny smell when I turned it on and after inspection I found a damaged IC. Now I want to replace the IC, however it has a small hole which prevents me from exactly reading the IC number. Now my question is if anyone has this motherboard and can tell me what IC it is or if anyone has any idea how I could find out which IC this is. (Pictures included: You can clearly see the hole in the IC in the pictures.)

Thanks in advance!

How much did you end up paying for the combo? Are you sure that, that is the component that fried and rendered this system dead? It could very well be some other component on the board or worse that the board itself is bricked. Lightning strikes or bad power going through the board can be culprits.

I ended up paying 40 euros including shipping for everything. There is a green power led that turns on as soon as I connect the psu and next to that it releases a burnt smell. Also, I can see no other physical damage, that is why I think this is the broken component.
