asus p8h61-m le/csm r2.0 1866mhz ram configuration bios settings

Hi Everybody!

I just installed new 16g PNY ram sticks into my asus p8h61-m le/csm r2.0 mobo and i can't for the life of me figure out how to make it run faster than 1333mhz. I tried simply selecting the XMP option in my bios but when I clicked the save changes and reset button my comp screen went blank and said no signal but the comp remained on. Had to poke it in the eye to get it to reset and then all I got was the "overclocking failed" message so i reverted to default in the bios and here we are. so if someone could give me idiot-proof instructions on how to get the most out of my ram I would be most appreciative.
 
Using CPU-Z (download here), click on SPD tab, and if necessary select appropriate memory slot where DIMM installed. In the timings table, take note of the timings and voltage required for 1866 MHz operation (might be under XMP1866, and/or frequency listed will be 933 MHz).

Boot into BIOS.

Set Memory Frequency to 1866.

Set DRAM Voltage to that noted above.

Set DRAM timings as noted above.

Set Command Rate to 2.

Save and exit. Reboot.
 


I followed your instructions but it did not work. i could not find where to change the "tRC" value. and i think i had the command rate at two but it was called command mode. what should the BCLK/PEG be set to? is it possible that my mobo just can't handle anything higher than 1333?

 
The P8H61-M LE/CSM R2.0 motherboard is capable of overclocking memory well in excess of 1866 MHz.

For now, please don't make any other adjustments to BIOS settings apart from memory frequency, timings, and voltage.

tRC may be under some sub-menu? If not don't worry about it.

What CPU are you using? And what is the specific model of the PNY memory please?
 


CPU is intel i7-2600

pc3-14900 is the model number for the mem sticks

for now ive reverted back to default bios. one weird thing is if i click on OC tuner in the bios(which supposedly sets all this stuff automatically) the ram frequency goes up a tiny bit, from 666.5mhz to 685.5mhz. not nearly what i'm aiming for but its the farthest ive gotten.
 
OK. PC3-14900 is actually the bandwidth rating of the memory and not the model number. The model number is maybe MD16384KD3-1866-X9? This is for a 2 x 8 GB DIMM kit at 1866 MHz.

Just confirming that the CPU is NOT i7-2600k, but is definitely i7-2600?


Try ONE DIMM at a time. Then try setting 1866 MHz via XMP. If that doesn't work, try setting manually as detailed before. If there are still problems getting the DIMM's to run at 1866 MHz, then the memory may be faulty or not entirely compatible?

Could also try overclocking the CPU a little, but this is very limited if using a i7-2600 CPU.

Try setting Turbo Mode to "enabled", and/or try setting CPU Ratio up a bit. Monitor CPU core temps after doing this to ensure there is no excessive temperatures (using Core Temp or similar program).
 



MD16384KD3-1866-K-X10 is the model number. silly me. tried one stick at a time. both sticks worked at the usual 666.5mhz on their own. tried each individual stick with 1866mhz set in xmp and got the same old result of not being able to reset, being poked in the eye and getting the "overclocking failed" message. tried turning up the cpu ratio to 17 and same result. turbo was already enabled.
 


oh and yes my cpu is def a 2600. how would i go about overclocking my cpu?

You are actually overclocking your CPU by using Turbo and also by increasing the CPU Ratio.

Increasing BCLK/Peg by 1 MHz step at a time will also overclock your CPU, but it will also overclock other components also. Because of this, the system may become unstable (soon). Don't go higher than about 105 MHz for BCLK. If the memory still doesn't work at 1866 MHz, then the memory may just be incompatible (at 1866 MHz).
