Asus P8H77-V LE will only working with 1 stick of memory

Hi all - just received my new P8H77-V LE mobo to replace an older Gigabyte that died. Ordered from NewEgg and found a combo that came with (2) sticks of 4GB G-Skill RipJaws 1600 memory (F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL). This is listed in the manual as compatible.

Alas, despite hours of effort, I can't get it to pass the onboard MemOK! check if I have more than 1 stick installed.

Doesn't matter which one. Does matter that its only installed on the socket farthest from CPU (the light blue one).

Running in manual mode now, just to avoid any overclocking.

I have updated to the latest BIOS. I've tried forcing the memory from 1600 to 1333 - no change.

Any suggestion of other things to try?

If each stick can test and work when in the 2nd slot but not the 1st, that's most likely a motherboard issue.

If BIOS updates didn't help, try NewEgg for an RMA, or try ASUS support to see if they can help/replace board.

If there are 4 Dimm slots you need to match both memory sticks in the matching colored slots. Blue to Blue, Black to Black.
If your wanting to change the speed on the ram from 1333 to 1600 you need to set it from auto or manual to D.O.C.P.
I believe that's the correct acronym but it will look like that.

ASUS support was nice. They are advance shipping me a new motherboard - I'll live with 4GB for now. Took about 45 minutes to get everything discussed and the RMA issued. Not bad at all. Oh, for the record, their number is 812-282-2787.

I'll post when it comes in and if that fixes the problem.

Appreciate the information, but had that one covered. Ends up, independent of which stick I'm using, the ONLY place it will work is in the far blue slot (farthest from the CPU). Either stick works there, but will not work in any other slot, or in any pair (which is a superset of the "any other slot" problem I suspect). The memory is XMP-1600 - I just tried slowing it down to see if that would help, it didn't.

Its a core 5 Intel surface mount CPU - there are no pins to bend. What makes you believe that is the case?

Of course, the picture looks like someone hit the socket with a hammer.

The memory controller is integrated in the CPU. A faulty contact in the DRAM area of the land grid due to bent pins can create issues like the one you experience.

Ah!... well, I have an advanced replacement motherboard coming - so if that is the case, that should do it!

When the new board arrives and you remove the CPU, just inspect the socket of the old board.
