Asus p8p67 pro b3 vga led hang up

ok so i slowly built a new rig over the past month and a half, finally got the new part in today (video card). plugged it in and excitedly powered it on and nothing happened.. led light for vga_led was stuck on.. so i reseated memory, and video card, restart and nada same thing.. removed battery / cleared cmos restart and same ***.. swapped the video card from x16 slot down to the x8 slot restarted and samething... so i did the imfamous phone call to asus, and spoke with a tech, so he made me do everything i already have done to only find out the same ol' crap (stuck on vga_led).. so the asus tech said it is very well possible that the video card is a DOA.. now is he saying this cause he works for asus? or is it really a bad vid card? i would absolutly hate to RMA a good vid card and blow about 2 weeks shipping to and from newegg to find out that its a bad mobo, and then blow another 2 weeks shipping to and from tigerdirect to RMA the motherboard.

MSI twin frozr II n560gtx ti/oc 880mhz

please any input on this would be great!! any experience with this situation? should i rma the vid card, or screw it and rma the mobo? unfortunaly i do not have a friend that i know of with a decent computer to try the vid card on...

It would really be great if you had a 2nd machine to test the card in. Or a 2nd card to test in the new machine. I can understand your concern, because I too had a similar experience. It turned out to be the video slots/chip set on the board. But I had a 2nd machine and an extra card to test with. Maybe a friend could loan you a card, or test yours on his rig?

Did you plug two 6-pin PCI-Express Supplementary Power Connectors from the power supply unit into the graphics card?

Yes... They were both plugged in.. I even swapped them around knowing that it wouldn't make a difference..but at this point I would try about anything in hopes (both 6 pin power connectors)

Take the board out of the case, set it on a piece of cardboard close enough to the PSU to plug in the power leads, hook up the speaker to board so you can hear the error beeps. With the just processor, 1 stick of RAM, and the video card hooked up, (and plugged into a monitor) short the power on pins with a small screwdriver or jumper and see what happens. You should get beep code errors of some kind. Try with the video card out, them memory in and out, etc. If you cannot get a POST, or any beep codes either, then the motherboard is bad. If you get error beep codes, the video card is likely bad, but at least you know then the motherboard is okay.

I am talking about the 2 pins on the board you attach the power leads to the front of the case. While the board is out of the case, to "turn on" you just short across those 2 pins.....just make sure you touch only those 2 pins though! It's the same as pressing the power on button when it is hooked up, you just momentarily close the circuit between them to start the POST process. A jumper is best if you have one, if not a small screwdriver works. By jumper I mean one of the small little plastic things that goes over 2 of the pins to make contact between them.

But when I install an external video card and plug the dvi through that then I get the VGA_led light and wont boot. I have tried 2 Nvidia cards, a 8800GTS from an existing computer which I know it works, and a brand new 560ti with same results. I then unplug the cards and connected the DVI via the mobo and it boots. WTF. Seems to be the mobo to me. RMA'ing tomorrow. Extremely frustrating.

I rma'd the mobo and when I got the new one it worked fine... Yea it was a bit of a hassle, but it's good now!!
