Hello,

I just purchased a ASUS P8Z68-V LX and an Intel i5-2500k. I've heard a lot of stories about the G.SKILL Ripjaws not being able to fit under the CM 212+. I plan on purchasing a CM 212+ in the near future so I want to make sure the RAM I am purchasing will not have any clearance issues when that comes in.

I'm looking at the following kits:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231416

The Ripjaws look like they may have clearance issues due to the height of the heat spreaders. The Sniper ones look like they may fit better since they're low profile. However, my only concern is the Snipers are not listed as a qualified compatible kit for this motherboard while the Ripjaws are:

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z68V_LX/#MSL

As far as I can tell, the Snipers run at the same speed, have the same timings, and run at the same voltage as the others. Is there any reason this wouldn't work?

Does anyone have the P8Z68-V LX with the CM 212+ and the Ripjaws? Does anyone know if the distance between the CPU and the first RAM slot is the same for the P8Z68-V LX vs. P8Z68-V PRO?

Thanks in advanced!

According to the G.SKILL site, the Snipers are actually taller than the Ripjaws! They are listed as 42 mm / 1.65 inch where the Ripjaws are only 40 mm / 1.58 inch. The Ripjaws X series is also listed as 40 mm/1.58 inch:

So I guess I can take the Snipers off the list. Anyone running with the Ripjaws or Ripjaws X with a CM Hyper 212+ and P8Z68-V LX?

The QVL of memory for the motherboards are never a complete list and it doesn't mean that you can only use the ram that is on the list. The QVL is a list of what ram sets that they actually got to test in that motherboard and if you have ram sets with similar settings and speed to one that is on the list then it will work. If you are concerned about the clearence then you could get this ram.

Here is the data that I can offer:

I have an ASUS P8Z68-V PRO, Ripjaws, and a Xigmatek Loki which, according to specs, has about 3.5mm more clearance than the Hyper 212+. I have push/pull fans and it's oriented so that air flows perpendicular to the RAM. That is, in a standard tower my HSF pushes air out of the back instead of out of the top. My Ripjaws do not interfere with the fan but only because the fan is not "on top" of the RAM. If the CPU socket were 4mm closer to the RAM then the fan would not clear. However, if the ram were maybe 2mm shorter then it would probably clear. Hopefully I've explained this clearly. I can provide pictures tomorrow morning if needed.

EDIT: All four DIMM's are populated - that seems important.

Thanks guys!

inzone, that's what I figured. Just wanted to confirm.

danraies, are you able to measure how far the CPU socket is to the first RAM slot? I wonder if the distance is the same for the PRO vs the LX version. I also plan on mounting the 212 perpendicular to the RAM so it pushes the air towards the exhaust fan in the back.
