I am attempting to set up my first computer build with an Asus P8Z77-V MB in RAID 10 configuration. I have four identical hard drives plugged into the four available SATA6G ports.
Two navy blue ports are labeled SATA6G_E1/E2. Two gray ports are labeled SATA6G_1/2. There are four light blue ports labeled SATA3G_1/2/3/4.

I have the hard drives plugged into the four 6G ports (navy blue, gray), however, I'm not sure if this is correct. The boot menu shows four hard drives but two are labeled P1 and two are labeled P2. (The DVD-ROM is on P4).

When I try to set up the RAID 10, it shows only two drives.

The manual says the navy blue 6G ports labeled E1/E2 are for data drives, but provides no other information.

So, am I using the wrong ports? Do I need to plug the HD's into the 6G_1/2 and 3G_3/4 ports for the bios to properly recognize them and to be able to set up the RAID? If so, what are the 6G_E1/E2 ports for then?

Thanks in advance - Jeff

OK....So, I rearranged the ports and as I suspected all of the drives show up. So, what the hell are the "E" ports for?

Now I have a question about setting up RAID 10. So, I set up the first two (6G) drives as RAID 0 (striped) and it gave a total capacity of 1000 GB (500*2). When I set up the RAID 1 (mirrored) drives, it automatically used the remaining two drives, but it gives me a capacity of only just under 500 GB. Is this set up correctly? Is it going to mirror the entire 1000 GB to both 500 GB drives?

Thanks - Jeff
