Hello all, i am having an extremely difficult time between deciding these 2 monitors.

1. 27" 1440p 144hz 1ms
https://www.asus.com/Monitors/MG278Q/specifications/

2. 28" 4k 60hz 1ms
https://www.asus.com/us/Commercial-Monitors/PB287Q/specifications/

My GPU is GTX 1080 Ti. Please note i ONLY want a monitor with 1ms response time so IPS panels are NOT an option.

I really don't know much about general quality of these two. Can you tell me which of these 2 TN panels have better picture quality and/or contrast ratio?
Also if i DO buy a 4K monitor and i play some games at 1440p resolution (to get better performance) will the quality be much poorer then MG278Q (because its not the native resolution)?

Solution
Neither.
1ms response time is a bunch of marketing BS, they apply extreme overdrive settings which result in overshoot and ghosting, most '1ms' monitor are around 4-5ms anyway, the IPS 1440p 144hz monitors average about 5.
I play SC2 competitively, I can't tell any difference at all between '1ms' and 4ms if that's any extra justification.
These are the two I recommend.

I have seen DOOM being played on MG279Q and MG278Q side by side and i can CERTAINLY notice the difference. MG278Q plays much more smoothly to my eye then MG279Q. The only difference between both is that one is 4ms IPS and other is 1ms TN and that's why i said IPS is out of the question.

So after looking both in action side by side no one is going to change my mind to get IPS panel here. Yes true IPS does look better then TN but smoothness is much more important to me. I do play lots of fast racing games and action games so 1ms response time is something that i don't want to sacrifice.

That brings me back to my original question, what would be the best between the two i mentioned.

......
You realise it's referring to the time it takes to display the image, which in itself is 1/1000th of a second per ms, and they both have the same tech/construction save for the panel right?
There's 0 difference there, smoothness is nothing to do with it, if it looked much smoother, it's likely that 144hz wasn't even setup on the MG279Q.
The choice depends on whether you want 4k or 1440p 144hz, but I can't recommend either i'm afraid.

Alright lets take panels out of discussion for argument sake. What would you recommend between 1440p and 4K on a GTX 1080 Ti in general?
I am currently using a very old FULL HD Dell monitor that can only do 60 Hz max. Will buying 1440p @ 144hz generally better then 4k @ 60hz?

I am afraid buying a display monitor today means probably no upgrade for the next 5 or so years (i have used my current Dell monitor FOR MUCH MORE LONGER). So what i am buying today i am sticking with it for the next 4 or so years. (unless it stops working or some other technical issues)

I know its my choice but i want suggestions on what's more popular amongst gamers, 4k or higher refresh rate.
It would have been much easier if i already owned both but i don't so thats why.
I currently own a 60hz monitor in both home and office so i really haven't experienced higher refresh rate long enough to deduce conclusion myself. Neither i have owned a 4k tv or monitor yet to make an immediate decision.

duh i dunno whats with the ego in almost every toms user these days.
I haven't asked for comparison between ips and tn panel did i? Since my OP i have mentioned what i want is comparison and suggestion between 1440p 1440 hz and 4k 60hz monitor. If you have nothing constructive to add about what I am asking rather then trying to enforce your own opinion which i CLEARLY mentioned in my OP that its out of the question then please refrain from posting further in my thread.
Thanks for all your replies so far.

I told you, it's highly personal, do you want more visuals? Go for 4k.
Do you want higher visible FPS? go 1440p.
I told you this part.
I'm adding constructive info, yet you don't want to accept it, if that's the case this thread is going nowhere.
'Enforcing opinion' as you put it is exactly what forum users do, that's all a post is.
If people don't agree with you, at least listen.

I bought a 4k monitor in the end. Yeah i saw 144hz in action and although it was much smoother but i am not a competitive player anymore. As a matter of fact the only fps game i play sometimes just to chill with friends is TF2.
95% of my game time consists of RPG's/RTS/4x strategy games so 4k seemed like the best deal to me.
