Hello,

I am having a problem trying to use my Asus PCE-AC68 wireless adapter.

The adapter is installed correctly into my computer and I have downloaded the Asus WLAN Control Centre, but when I try to open it, it comes up with an error message saying I need to install the network adapter first?

There is also a 2nd network adapter on my motherboard which is:

Manufacturer: Broadcom
Description: Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter

I am using Windows 8.1 Professional.

When I go to the bottom right to try and connect to a wireless network, both of the wireless adapters are showing signals, the Broadcom adapter on my motherboard will connect, but is very weak and slow.

But the Asus adapter will let me select a network, enter the security key and then come up saying I've connected, but shortly will disconnect with no warning and say No Connection, Not Connected and then will not let me try to select the network again.

When I go into the properties, it says that the adapter is working correctly with no problems.

I have tried removing all drivers for both adapters and installing each on their own, which in my Device Manager changes both network devices to the same name so; Broadcom, Broadcom #2 or Asus, Asus #2.

If anybody has any ideas where I could be going wrong or knows a sort of solution, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Go into your motherboards BIOS (usually hit DEL key as soon as boot starts), turn off on-board NIC (on-board network, and any on board wifi adapter if included). Save and see if you can use your adapter properly now, you might need to re-install the adapter's software after this change.

Thank you for the reply as this was something I have not read about yet.

But this solution did not work, all I could find in my BIOS under integrated was one option for Wi-Fi controller which I disabled and this didn't change anything.

I have disabled the other adapter, removed the drivers and still nothing changes.

I have turned off my firewall. No changes.

When I connect, it says it connects to my network then after about 15 seconds or when I try to load a webpage, it disconnects and won't let me connect to anything.

I am getting to a point were I'll try a Windows reinstall.

Are other devices having similar issues when connected wirelessly? It could be the router or your internet as well.

No, there are 3 laptops and 3 phones connected to the wireless and they are all running fine with no problems. I have a LAN cable currently plugged into my computer from the router/access point I'm trying to connect to through the wireless (the LAN cable is a temporary measure until this is fixed)

It could be a compatibility issue with windows 8.1, I have heard of this before for similar add-on cards. Is this an older model card? Usually it states what it's compatible for on the box. This could be the issue.

I'll have a look tonight about compatibility and see if I can find anything. My system is fairly new being DDR4 based and the network adapter is at least 18 months old now since I purchased it.
