Hi!

I have a doubt with a pc that I am assembling and has an asus z590 motherboard. The power connection to the motherboard has an 8-pin connector and a 4-pin connector. My power supply is Corsair 850rmx (brings two cables with 8 pins instead of bringing one 8-pin and one 4-pin.

1 x 24-pin Main Power connector - Ok -
1 x 8-pin +12V Power connector - Ok -
1 x 4-pin +12V Power connector - ¿? -

On the power suplly I have two 8 pin connectors for the cpu. If I connect both, one would have 4 pins left over. Is this ok? (4 pins would be sticking out without connecting).

do I have to connect both or is the 8-pin only enough? Do I have to buy a cable?

Thanks!

Solution
Yes, it is okay to have 4-pins left over. That is why they split apart.

You might be able to get away with only the 8-pin, but you bought a high end board, if you utilize all the features and overclock, you may need the additional power.

If you want it to look neater, you certainly can buy replacement cables.
