Hi everyone,

I need help with my Asus laptop. I purchased this Asus Q502LA from Best Buy in August. Every now and then, the touch screen stops responding. If I flip the laptop into tablet mode, I can get the touch function to work again.

I just looked in my device manager while it was malfunctioning and the touch screen drivers and a couple other devices didn't show up under HID. If I flip it to laptop mode with the device manager open, these devices would pop up again.

I tried asking Asus, but they gave me the standard answers of send it in for an RMA, on my expense, or do a complete factory reinstallation.

I've tried looking for newer drivers in the Asus website for this computer, but nothing's showed up aside from a BIOS update that I installed with no effect.

Anybody have an idea of a solution for this?

Seems like you've really tried all the options yourself. If it was me I'd do a factory reset, and like you said, if that doesn't work RMA it. Have you googled the problem yet? I know I've found strange solutions to random problems with laptops just by googling. For example I fixed a lenovo touchpad that was useless simply by pulling the entire thing apart and throwing some electrical tape on the backside of it.

Thanks for the reply. I've googled various variations of broken, non-responsive, and stopped working with Asus and people largely just have issues with it stopping completely and never coming back on. There was an old solution about preventing my battery saving functions from turning off the interface, but that hasn't changed anything. The touch screen also doesn't allow battery performance to turn it off, so that seems like a dead end.

Looks like I'll have to try a factory reset today after work. Hopefully I don't have to RMA it.

Sadly it sounds like something you'll have to RMA, a factory reset may work, but it sounds like faulty hardware or simply wiring. I popped open a clients laptop once because their wifi wasn't working and it would no longer charge, basically the soldering was just crap, took all of 5 min to fix and ensure it didn't happen again, but still, it's amazing the kind of stuff that gets though on the production floor. Seems like most brands dont even know what quality control means any more.
