my laptop battery ran down and i had forgotten my regular charger at home. So, I went to best buy and bought an Insignia universal charger. I found the right adapter and plugged in, it worked for only a few minutes. When I got home I plugged in my regular charger and now my computer won't charge or start. Please help.=

Solution
I'll suggest a reset here, it's a little trickier since you have an internal battery.
1) unplug adapter from laptop.
2) follow directions here to remove battery http://www.insidemylaptop.com/taking-apart-asus-q550lf-bbi7t07/
3) with battery out and adapter unplugged, press and hold power button for ~30 seconds
4) reinstall battery and put back cover on
5) plug in adapter
6) attempt to power on

If you are currently under warranty, you may want to contact Asus before doing that (although it shouldn't affect warranty) to see if they have an easier way to reset
