Asus' new routers now support a very intelligent QoS system. My question is: While we know QoS makes a big difference when multiple devices are using the internet at the same time, does it make a difference when there is only one device online?

As in if I have my Xbox One or PC set to the Highest QoS setting, will it be any different (in terms of speeds and latency) than if I didn't enable QoS on the router and the Xbox One or PC was the only device using the internet?

If there was only one device connected or powered on, then QoS is meaningless. However, if a device was connected but idling, then QoS can still matter, as the idling device will still be sending and receiving network packets. In all likelihood, the importance of QoS in this scenario is still meaningless.

QoS only matters when you have hundreds of devices and need to priortise certain types of network traffic, such as VoIP.

So basically setting a device on the highest QoS setting yields no gain in speed and latency if its the only device online at the time when compared leaving the QoS off right?
