Asus r9 280 power in issue

Hello all!!I received a brand new Asus R9 280 today. I am using a corsair 500w fully modular psu. Here is my problem: when plugging the two power cables to the GPU (6 pin and 8 pin using a 6 to 8 pin converter) only one of the led status light turns green (6 pin) and the other one stays red (8 pin).

I was wondering if the GPU was defective or if something is wrong with my setup.

Try turning on your computer and see if your system detects your GPU. If not you will have a problem there.
