Asus R9 290 directcu ii video card release?

Anyone know a release date for this? I saw the teaser of the R9 290x on the asus site but nothing about the 290 or a release date or price for either. Is the 290x worth the ~300 stream processors for 100-150$ difference? also do you think these will have an awesome backplate like the 7970 matrix or the ROG armor style backplate?
