Asus rampage and 5960x not booting

I have recently got a new mobo and CPU. They are the i7 5960x and asus rampage v extreme. I have installed everything but it won't boot or post. It is stuck at qcode 00. Any ideas? I'm a novice

thanks for the info, upon closer inspection the pins that the cpu sits on have some damage, could this be the issue? there is a cluster of say 5 or six pins that are bent quite badly.

Yes! I'm pretty sure that you have found your problem.

I hope so thanks! I'm going to ask for a replacement today. I was also wondering if my PSU is a problem. I've seen a lot of posts about having to plug in both 8pin AND 4 pin power cables into the motherboard. Is this true? I have the 8pin plugged in but not the 4pin. There's another 8pin cable coming from my PSU that can be split into two 4pins.

Check your PSU's instructions on splitting the 8 pin first, then plug in the correct 4 pin.
