Hey,

I am wanting to upgrade my RAM. Would I be able to use Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 3200MHz with my mobo?
If so, would I need to be overclocking etc? I am running an i7 4960x.

Thanks so much guys!

Greetings!

It appears the Rampage IV Black Edition actually is a DDR3 era board, which means that you are not able to run DDR4 memory. It also appears that the board can support up to ~2800MHz, so you wouldn't be able to tap into the speed of 4000MHz sticks.

Here is Asus' spec sheet for your board:

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_IV_BLACK_EDITION/specifications/

Hope this helps!

You bet! To be honest, even with DDR4 @ 4000MHz, you wouldn't really notice much increase in usability of your system. Also, Corsair does make the Dominator Platinum in a DDR3 version! So if you wanted that look, you can still have it!

Ah, so it wouldn't make much difference?

Nah, not really. Here is a link to a video (it is a couple years old) that gives a comparison in benchmark form:

It really comes down to your processor...which is still a beastly CPU:)
