Hello,

This is not a new PC build it's years old and memory was working fine the whole time.

I was cleaning my PCs fans from the dust and removing a dead fan while i was at it i decided to update my BIOS and i re-did the automatic tune up my Asus board comes with.

Everything was working fine till i noticed 2 channels (C1, C2) where showing abnormal, CPU-Z still showed 32GB but only 24GB was being used, I swapped (C1, C2) with (D1, D2) and they where still showing abnormal in the D channels, the C channels where working fine.

I contacted G.Skill and they asked me to remove all 8 ram sticks and test them out one by one to see if the PC would post, so i did and they all worked i even kept tabs on the 2 memory sticks showing (abnormal), no problems.

I put all the ram sticks back in but now the whole right side (channels C and D ) are not detecting anything, A and B are working fine so i took out all the memory once again now though i swapped A and B channels with C and D computer started up and same problem no detection in C and D.

Now i only have 16GB detected memory.

I reset the BIOS to optimized defaults but that didn't seem to help, I'm thinking the CPU memory controller might have messed up ?

any help would be awesome.

Solution
as the newer intel cpu the memory controller is built into the cpu. memory issue can happen on intel cpu if the cpu fan is pressed down to hard and is shorting the lid to the cpu chip. the other issue can be the cpu chip is not sitting on all of the pin pads. the pins under the cpu there a bent one or two. the memory controller on your cpu died. run the intel cpu test see if it passes.

Ok, so i have tested the CPU using the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and everything passed, so does this mean it is the the motherboard and if so anything i can do to fix it, as far as bent pins go the CPU has not been played with not even the cooler.

thank you for the assistance so far.
