Hi, new to this forum. Used for years but never responded or asked anything. Recently i have came across a unfortunate situation. My motherboard died on me i think, my mom placed a magnet that hold things on my chassis and didnt know. Had m motherboard unplugged for a few months so my siblings wouldnt use it, since it was still under construction. I called asus and they told me they will charge me 270 to repair the motherboard. Was wondering if is worth repairing the motherboard. Not sure if my cpu will need repairing too. Or should i just start a new build and scrap up parts from this pc? If need anymore info feel free to ask.

Thanks guys.

A fridge magnet is not going to hurt anything, in order to damage something it it have to be a very powerful magnet. The magnets inside a HDD are likely more powerful than the one you mom put on your system as I find it unlikely she has electromagnets laying around.

If you post the full system spoecs along with a detailed description of what the system is doing we can help troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue.

The day I wasn't going to use it, I unplugged the 24pin power connector from the motherboard so my brother wouldn't use it and screw with my pc. (this build was missing GPU's and SSD)
this was about a year ago when i got my gaming laptop with my college refund, so i didn't need to use my desktop anymore. Once i get a SSD and a product key for W10 pro, i plug my system back on and debug code stays as 00, Red CPU_LED, green VCORE, and green PCH. This stay on even if i reset the CMOS. I tried removing everything and reconnecting, nothing changed. I called asus and they said it might be a problem with the motherboard and that it will cost me $270 to repair it. My co-Worker said to bring it in and see if he can fix it. Which I am going to do. There are acouple of options i can do.
1: if he can fix it, great. no need to spend money.
2: if it is a motherboard issue, i can spend the $270 to fix it.
3: if the motherboard is fixed but the CPU is also bad, then im screwed and will need to get a new CPU.
4: I can just start a new build.

I loved this build even tho it wasn't completed. I spent a lot of money when i was in High School to have a good build to last and this happened. No idea how but i got very unlucky.

It's been connected all this time. The only thing i removed was the 24-pin power connector. Also, the Asus rep asked me if i can Flash the Bios, but i never worked since it never blinked. Can reach bios menu or anything. No POST.

I saw this post and followed it. Im going to try and see if my PSU has another CPU 8-pin power connector. Maybe one is bad now.
i see on this post:http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1805965/rampage-formula-debug-red-cpu-led.html
That its the Bios, but i think im not doing the flash bios right. I do every step but i might be missing something.

He's concluded with the motherboard being defective. He suggest that i should do the $270 repair from asus first. If hey fix it and its all good then is not bad. But if is also the CPU, then ima have to build a new computer.
