Hi there guys.
I posted the other day in search of some answers, as I have some unusual micro-stuttering since I installed my 1080ti. I initially believed it to be a CPU bottleneck as I am running an i5 6600k. That being said, after carefully monitoring CPU usage over the past few days, and messing with all manner of settings - I have concluded that whilst certain games may present an issue to the CPU, most of the games I play do not.
Battlegrounds will sit between 65-90% CPU usage, and Battlefield 1 sits at 100% constantly. The rest seem content between 60-85%. Ironically, even with Battlefield 1 sat at 100%, I do *not* get the micro-stuttering I see in other games where the CPU is being used less - which has lead me to the conclusion that the CPU, whilst needing an upgrade in the near future - is not the cause.
I have been monitoring GPU performance with Asus Tweaks software, and all readings are smooth and fluid. There are no spikes in performance or drops anywhere. It ramps up when Games are entered and maintains a nice even flow.
The two games it is most noticeable in is Rocket League and Battlegrounds. With BG being an Early Access game, I can appreciate that it has its own performance issues. That being said, I have seen other uses with 1080TI/1080 set-ups where there game is running smoother than mine. I have tried all manner of in-game combinations and control panel settings to see if it will run smoother, but despite a 80-110fps in game frame rate, i am still getting this micro-stutter.
Rocket League for the most part I can get to perform as it should.. Its usually V-Sync that getting the card to restrict fps to what my monitor can handle.
Games such as Metro, Battlefield 1&4, Battlefront, Project Cars etc all seem to run fine. The micro-stutter can be evident in GTA5 when fast fps is demanded. That being said, there is no frame rate drop recorded.
A friend recommended reformatting my SSD and doing a fresh install of Windows and a couple of games.
Have installed and reinstalled the last 5 Nvidia drivers using DDU each time, no difference.
Just seems wierd that some games run coherently fine and others I am having struggles with and no correlation to the CPU usage.
Set-up is:
Asus Z170S MOBO
Intel i5 6600k
16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM 2.4
ASUS ROG 1080TI
Corsair H115i Cooler
Samsung 850 Evo 500GB SSD
Seagate 1TB HDD
Monitor: Asus ROG 34" 1440p 100hz
