the 880M, just like the 780M and 680MX, is based off a underclocked desktop 680/770 (GK104) with boost. except its only UC'd by 5% and 16% on the core and memory, which practically puts in the territory of a full fledged 680... in a laptop. Still kind of wished for maxwell
STILL!! It uses the 4700HQ instead of the 4700MQ processor whereas it's competition such as the MSI gt70-2od has a 4700MQ so you can upgrade to an extreme processor when they get cheap years from now. What's the reason? The Asus is heavier than the MSI so having a BGA CPU is not to save weight
"upgrade to an extreme processor when they get cheap years from now" Nope. The reality is those of us who have one will just buy a new machine in a couple years, the extra room to expand the cooling system is the reason it was done.
Well Zetto that is what I did with my Asus G50VT gaming laptop. I bought it with a P8700 CPU in 2009 or so and then in late 2012 I believe I bought the X9100 extreme CPU for $109 and couldn't be happier. I'll take the MSI
