Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero issues with G. Skill RAM

Hey guys, I just built a new computer, with these specs:

Asus Maximus IX Hero motherboard
Intel i7-7700k CPU
G. Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4 3200 RAM

When I first built the PC one of my sticks of ram (I have 2x8gb) did not light up, wasn't detected by windows, and would sometimes prevent boot. I RMA'd that stick, but the one I received back has the same problem. I tried the working one in all available slots, so I know they work, but the other does not. Before I RMA that stick AGAIN, I wanted to see if anyone has had issues with this RAM/MB combo, and if this issue might be related to bios or something. G. Skill's rma process is a pain in the behind, and I requested for them to pay for shipping this time, which they have ignored. If at all possible, I'd like to avoid RMAing it again.

Update the BIOS to the latest version first.
The sticks should "work" out of the box though. It's only when you try to use Light controlling software is when they'll break.

I have the exact same problem, a Bios update got one of my sticks lights work again, and running at their rated speeds, but one is still broken on the lighting front because the SPD data on the ram stick got/gets corrupted by anything that was trying to read it. (CPU-Z, G.skill lighting software for example)
