Hello,
I am thinking about upgrading to a new Mobo: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII GENE Micro ATX Intel Motherboard, especially since it has an M.2 SSD connection. I am considering the Samsung 950 Pro.

However, one of my concerns is the location of the M.2 connection. If you look at the attached picture, you will notice that the SSD will end up under the GPU. I have only found one review so far where the person complained about his SSD getting hot because of the GPU heat!

Is it something I should be concerned about, or am I just reading too much into it?

Well a ssd under 50C is considered safe, and I think you could have the GPU in the other pcie slot unless you have dual cards or plan to upgrade. But i would much rather recommend 2 sata ssd in raid 0 for best performance(could be placed for optimal temps). Otherwise look for another mobo that suit your needs, try finding one with the m.2 port above the pcie slots if you are being concerned about it.

Thanks for your input.

By the way, do you guys know if using the PCI e adapter instead of connecting the SSD directly to the M.2 connection make any difference in the performance of the SSD?

I'm not planing on using SLI, just one GPU.

EDIT:
Supermuncher, I used to read Asterix when I was young...loved the books, I call them books because they used to be hardcover!

Well i found another thread that might explain the pcie vs m.2 explained by more qualifed people
Things to consider are GPU TDP and how much airflow you have inside your case if you have the ssd under the GPU
