I am building a new rig and need to choose a motherboard, I have noticed that RoG motherboards have an interesting feature called LANGuard which supposedly reduces packet loss and makes your connection more reliable.
Is this another marketing trick or is there actually a benefit for this feature?

Mostly marketing fluff. Almost all of the "lag time" or ping delay or packet loss you see in modern gaming happens between your cable modem and your ISP, not between your PC and Modem. The only part of this equation the end user can control is their home network. There is very little, no matter how good the app or hardware, that you can do to your PC or home network to improve ping/latency. That is, unless your home network is broken, in which case your cash is best spent on a new router/modem then on fancy network card features.
