Asus ROG PG278QR not being picked up by Windows correctly

Hey all,

So I've bought an Asus ROG PG278QR and so far it seems great, it's compatible with Nvidia G-Sync and can overclock to 165Hz or have a standard of 144Hz but the thing is I can't seem to set either of these up. I know for sure it has these capabilites, and my GTX 1080 certainly does as well!

When I look in device manager in Windows 10 under "Monitors" it has my older BenQ monitor on there as "BenQ GL2450H" and then underneath has "Generic PnP Monitor" so, it's not picking up my Asus properly, right? My graphics drivers are all up to date.

When I check in the Nvidia control panel, it recognises my monitor, but doesn't recognise it can use G-Sync or that the Hz can go higher than 60, so I'm assuming this is because Windows isn't recognising it either.

So what's the solution? I can't seem to find any drivers for the monitor, it's generally meant to be a plug and play sort of thing. I know where to change all the Hz and stuff it's just that I can't since it thinks it's just any old monitor.

Thanks,
Zac

I have the PG279Q monitor and it also shows up as generic pnp as does every other monitor I have ever owned. There are no drivers for it.

I would assume you are for some reason not using the provided display port cable, g sync will only work through display port. If you are using display port you should see a windows notification pop up that says "gsync monitor connected". It was plug and play for me.

No problem. We get this question a lot, the manufacturers should make this more obvious. I personally use display port for everything that has it. It does everything HDMI does with more bandwidth and support for things like g sync and freesync.

See I always thought HDMI was the best, I guess I was wrong. You learn something new every day!

Thanks again
