Hey!
So I'm planning to update my LED Full HD monitor to this new amazing ASUS Rog PG279Q. The problem is, I am most concerned about is getting this 165Hz. In the description of the monitor it says 2 things. First, DisplayPort is required to get the sweet 165Hz in 2k. Second, GTX 960 or higher is required to support up to 165Hz. The DP is not a problem, since gtx 770 has one, but the second point worries me a lot. What do they mean by up to 165Hz? Because if 144Hz is supported on gtx 770 I'm more than happy. I tried to find some information, however since this monitor model is relatively new - I couldn't find anything.

I will be updating my GPU in March-April (pretty much when Pascal comes out), but until then it would be pretty awesome to be able to experience the sweet 2k 165Hz (or 144Hz). So is my GTX 770 capable of this?

1440p@165Hz is beyond the specs for DisplayPort 1.2. It requires almost 20Gb/s with a 32-bit color depth, while DP 1.2 only offers about 17.3 (if we ignore overhead). So Nvidia and Asus are already doing something pretty funky to get this refresh rate, which makes sense since you need to overclock the display to get 165Hz. Because of this, I don't now for sure what cards will support the 165Hz mode, although theoretically any G-SYNC capable card (like the 770) should be able to use it.

Regardless, if you plan to upgrade in the future, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You will still be able to use 144Hz, and when you upgrade to the Pascal series you'll be able to use 165Hz without a doubt. The 770 won't be able to reach 165Hz at high...
