Asus ROG Rampage VI extreme M.2 Raid setup

Hi everyone,

I built a new beast and it will be the first time using an M.2 configuration. I've run into some issues and hoping to obtain some assistance. The system specs are as follows;

Asus ROG Rampage Extreme VI
Intel Core i9 7920x
4x 8GB G.Skill Trident Z 3600mhz (issue here for another thread)
2 x Samsung 850 pro
2x Samsung 970 pro

Anyway, the issue I'm currently having is setting up these 970 pro's with this motherboard. Call me stupid but I've read the User guide and tried to google but come seem to come across what I need to do to get this firing.

I would like to run them in the fastest combination possible ofcourse so if anyway can help me in how to set these up in a raid configuration I would appreciate it.

Currently where they are installed, when booting into windows they are undetected in my PC devices and drives however they are detected in device manager and showing as all drivers up to date and functioning.


Below is an image of where they are currently installed. I'm using the Rog Dim.2 and have a 970 installed on each side.

I can build pc's more than fine but not too good with all the actual software wizbang. Also will it matter which lane I have my GPU installed on? It's currently in the PCIE_X16/X8_3 slot.

so it should be unaffected ....

So this would mean my CPU can only support 1x 970 in the M.2_2(DIMM.2) slot? (slot near the motherboard).

I can't understand what the purpose of the ROG DIMM .2 expansion card is? Why is this piece of equipment designed and included with an X299 motherboard when the motherboard is designed for CPU's with more than 6 cores however it is stated only one M.2 is supported in this slot? Am I missing something? Am I interpreting this all wrong? Is the motherboard specifications stating only one M.2 can be mounted on a physical level and thus the ROG DIMM.2 expansion card solves this? Or is the limitation that this motherboard/cpu combination can't support 2x M.2's regardless of whether the expansion card is used or not.


Honestly don't understand why it's so hard for these companies to write down in plain sight how the F**K you setup these things lol.

have you tried the expansion card ?

Are you referring to the ROG DIMM.2 expansion card? If so than yes, it's how it's currently setup.

Are there any special things I need to do in the bios? Are 2x M.2 not supported? What is the purpose of the ROG DIMM.2 if two cards aren't supported? Is asus saying 2 aren't supported as there is only 1 slot?

I have the same problem! I have 2xSamsung 970 pro, and I want them to be in RAID0!

specification brochure states:
PCH RAID
Wired directly to the X299 PCH, the lower onboard M.2 slot can be used in chipset-based RAID configurations to improve storage performance or provide a layer of redundancy.


when I put two drives into m.2 slots and start raid option one drive disappears!!! when I put both of them into DIMM slot it sais that they are unsupported!&!&!
