Question asus rog strix 850w vs corsair rm850x

I decided to buy a new psu for my new rtx 3080 which required 3x8 pin as my old psu has 2x8pin only. Which one should I choose? both has 10 years warranty

All computer PSUs are made in China for the most part because all the factories are there, if you see 'made in Japan\Taiwan\Malaysia' on the box then it was just assembled, tested or packed there.
Out of these two i'd simply get the cheapest one. But ASUS Strix is probably overpriced to start with, look for OEM Seasonic Focus GX or a dozen of other good PSUs from the tier list in my signature (tier A, gold\blue colored).

This Corsair unit is made by CWT but your 'get it because it's Seasonic' sentiment is just wrong, this is a PSU, a piece of electrical equipment, all that matters is it's performance and quality of components, and in this case, Corsair RM-x actually performs slightly better than Seasonic Focus Gold platform.

No, review is from 2018 but this is 2015 version. 2018 version doesn't have white variants. Both versions are pretty much on the same level of quality and performance tho but if you're linking a review - link the right one.

I dug into this a bit further, it appears that white version of RM-x were indeed released (and reviewed) in 2018 but it uses older platform used in RM-x from 2015 (CP-902009*), no idea why but that is the source of my confusion. So there are basically three versions of RM-x :
v1, released in 2015, SKU code starts with CP-902009* (was in development for 6 years i guess), custom CWT platform (possibly referred by CWT as HAR judging by the markings on PCB), EoL except for 1000W model because v2 doesn't have 1000W version
v2 White, released in 2017-18, SKU code starts with CP-902018, uses the same CWT platform as v1, only has 750/850W models
v2 (Black), released in 2017-18, SKU code starts with CP-902017 and CP-902018, a new platform possibly based on CWT GPR or GPU, doesn't have 1000W model

I am 24/7 follower of that site , but I tried to give the OP the RMx 850 watts , and my only mistake was not noticing the serial number of it . The reviewed model is 2018 and was released in 2018 not 2015 , . I tried to give him 850 watts.

Damn, chill ... RM-x White is based on the old platform of RM-x v1 from 2015 despite being released in 2018 alongside of RM-x non-white based on different platform. I was wrong. But since you can rarely buy RM-x White, and RM-x v1 except for 1000W version is out of production, a review of RM-x White would be hardly relevant when it comes to current RM-x version because even though they're very similar in performance, inside they're very different units, that's what i was trying to say, there were no intention of attacking you.

I'm actually at the same boat as the OP. I'm actually in a situation that I bought both PSUs and both are on their way (asus and cm850x white). This is very interesting find and I was wondering where you found your source? I actually posted in an ongoing reddit and from linustechtips forums - and one person said what you mentioned about the 2018 white having 2015 innards. But this guy https://linustechtips.com/topic/1116640-psucultists-psu-tier-list/?do=findComment&comment=14327605 seems to disagree.

So I'm confused and I just want to make sure I keep the right one since its around $200.

The only thing efficiency does is save you some money on the electricity bill (nothing significant if you're not using the system 24/7 with high loads).

Other than that, the RM850i is better in pretty much every way :

• you can switch from multirail to single rail with it (the Thor is single rail only)
• it is one of the quietest PSUs on the market and uses a FDB fan vs the double bearing fan of the Thor
• the OLED screen on the Thor is likely to die prematurely (2 years warranty only)

I actually ended up with the Asus Strix. I had issues with the Corsair 850x white -- one of the GPU/PCI cables were broken .. when I plugged it in it suddenly smelled like burning -- the cable smelled so bad after -- luckily it didn't break my video card.

Removed and replaced with the Asus and it worked.

Thankfully I bought the Corsair from a local store but they didn't have a replacement on hand. So I just returned it for a full refund.

Another thing to note is the Strix actually worked better for me as I bought a Lian Li Strimmer RGB graphics cable and instead of using it for the GPU, I used it in the CPU 4+4+4 EPS. The cables that came from the Strix fit with the Lian Li Strimmer. So now I have an RGB CPU power lol.
