Hi,

I recently replaced my Samsung 860 Evo M.2 Sata with a new Samsung 980 Nvme m.2.

Placed the Samsung 860 Evo on the 2nd M.2 slot and thought it will be plug and play. But it was not.

Already updated BIOS to ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING BIOS 5003 . But Mobo still wont detect my 2nd M.2 slot.

Please advise.

Socket M2_1 right under the CPU does SATA and PCIe
Socket M2_2 that is down lower on the board only does PCIe

You will have to put your 860 in the M2_1 slot and the 980 in the M2_2 slot in order for them to both work.

Note: When the M.2_1 Socket 3 is operating in SATA or PCIE mode, SATA6G_5/6 ports will be disabled. When the M.2_2 is occupied by M.2 device, PCIe x16_1 will run at x8 mode.

I see. Would there be any performance hit if I made the switch? When booting on the M2_2 slot? Will try this out later on. Thanks for the advise.

Given that you have a SATA drive and a PCIe drive the only logical way to have both in the board is to put the 860 in the top slot next to the CPU since it is a SATA/PCIe socket and the 980 in the loser slot since it is only a PCIe socket.
