I built a machine last week with an ASUS ROG STRIX B850-I Gaming MOBO with a Ryzen 9 9900X, and a Samsung 990 EVO 2TB m.2 driver in slot 1 for the OS, and a Silicon Power 2TB drive in slot 2 (under the MOBO) as my DATA drive.

I updated the BIOS first, then installed Windows and my programs. I was using the 9900x onboard video through the MOBO HDMI out while I wait for my Video card to arrive. Anyway, everything was working fine.

Two days ago, when I started the machine it went straight to the BIOS. There was no boot manager and the Samsung 990 was no longer listed as an installed drive. Only the SP data drive was listed. Assuming the drive was the problem I went through all manner of testing. The Drive shows up on my other machines, and works in a USB enclosure on this machine. However, it is still not recognized by the BIOS when installed.

I then tried 3 other drives in this m.2 slot. Two were not recognized by the bios. At present, this Motherboard m.2 slot 1 will not recognize the Original Samsung 990 EVO 2TB, (that once worked) a Silicon Power 2TB, and another 256 MB drive. Only a Crucial 2TB is seen by the BIOS. I will try another Drive that comes today. If it is not seen, then I assume I'll have to dismantle the machine and return the motherboard to Amazon?

Thoughts, suggestions?

Please pass on the model for the Silicon Power SSD.

For the sake of relevance, what BIOS version are you for your motherboard?

If the board is at fault, after reflashing the BIOS to either the latest version or one version lower, while the culprit drives all seem to work on donor systems, then yes you should RMA the board.

When I began assembly, the first thing I did was flash the BIOS to the latest available for the ASUS site. I then built the machine with the 990 EVO 2TB m.2 as my OS drive and then installed Windows and everything worked. I added some programs and updated drivers for the AMD chipset and Realtek. Everything still worked. Two day later it goes straight to BIOS on startup and the OS drive is not found. I did tests with other drives as explained in the OP. I cleared the CMOS but nothing. I have not tried going back to original Shipped BIOS. I'm thinking that is my next step. (?)
