I bought a almost new ROG STRIX GTX 1070 in craigslist for $400.Today when I did some research I found there are two versions
1.) STRIX-GTX1070-8G --This is what I bought this
2.) STRIX-GTX1070-O8G

They both look alike in all ways but the clock speeds are different. Are there any internal hardware differences? Is it ever possible to get the clock speeds of the 'O' version with my regular version. There seems to be about 100MHZ difference. I am little disappointed because I was under the impression that I bought a "1835 MHz" version. Please suggest. Thanks in advance.

Only the bios is different, the cards are identical. Basically the O8G has a higher base overclock. But the way that Nivida Boost 3.0 works they will both automatically overclock to 2ghz.

There OC version also has 199GFLOPS (Double) compared to 181GFLOPS (Double).... So the OC version performs better in my opinion.

They are not the same, it is not only the BIOS that is different, the GPU chip is actually binned higher on the OC to achieve higher clocks, there are reports of people flashing the non-OC with the OC BIOS and could not sustain OC clocks and end up artifacting and crashing, you can check in Google coz i don't remember where i read it, probably on overclock.net

EDIT: Here is it i found the link http://www.overclock.net/t/1606367/flash-1070-strix-8g-with-o8g-bios

"Here it is, I tried it on my non OC strix but it could not maintain the default clocks and would artifact or crash. Hopefully your card fares better. Please report your findings because I believe Asus is binning these cards."

probably right, but with the OC version you are at least guaranteed to get the advertised clock stable (1860mhz) with the non-OC version you would be playing the silicon lottery, maybe it runs at OC clocks or maybe not, the price difference between the two in my market is very tiny, less than 2% difference or €10 , not really a big deal.

Hey, I was about to buy the o8g version of this card for £450 but have just found the 8g version for £341. I only just learned there are two versions.

I'm spending a decent amount on getting good components, motherboard, ram, monitor etc.

Would you be able to advise me if I'm gimping my system by taking the saving please? Is there any noticeable difference to warrant the difference in price?

Thanks!

honestly the OG version is going to preform identically. The OG has a higher base clock but with Nvidia 3.0 boost the 8G, it will go up to 2ghz on its own without any tweaking or software.

wow, where I bought it there was only a $20 difference.
don't flash the Bios, just boost that thing to the max. all cards achieve at least 2000Mhz which is all you need.

the OC version does indeed have binned chips so they are guaranteed to clock higher, and most likely the ones that didn't pass the test were given to the 8G.

That is why I said anything above 2000Mhz is all you need. some people do care about getting every single FPS out of the card, but it gets pointless when you do so much work for 1-3 more FPS

Thank you very much for you reply, I went ahead and ordered the 8G version based on your advice :)
