Review Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D Review: 3D V-Cache Comes to Laptops

Too bad this is only available with a 4090, but I can't blame Asus for AMD not having a worthy GPU to pair with this CPU in a laptop.

Other than that... I was sincerely expecting better components. I don't know... For the price, while I believe this is* one of the cheapest 4090 laptops out there, I still expected more?

I'd love to see the 8-core sibling with a 6800M or whatever AMD can put in a laptop that is an actual upgrade from the 6800M.

Regards.

The reviewer said that there was only one SSD slot.
There clearly seems to be a second slot left under of the board, including a screw besides the battery to accomodate a 2280 ssd.

Good review. Looks like a decent processor.

One thing though, on the gaming legend, FHD = Red, QHD = Blue etc etc. What the heck are the grey ones!? 😉

Also, that's the first time I've seen the arrow keys down below the last line of keys on a QWERTY. Might take a little getting used to.

nah, you can get a 4090 legion laptop for around 2700

They basically replaced the 7945x with the 7945x-3D so no one should be 'disappointed' with the components being the same.
Now, with a 4080 GPU, I'd snap this up in a heartbeat. Other large laptops cost way more with top of the line CPU's - Intel or AMD.

Oh, and "rivals Intel's best gaming laptops"....lol!
check out the notebookcheck.net review
They are not afraid to clearly label it the "fastest gameing processor" and show it with a double digit performance increase over the 'non 3D' version in 'many games'.
They also say " CPU performance is identical to the regular Ryzen 9 7945HX and especially its multi-core efficiency in comparison to Intel's HX processors is phenomenal. Even with a fixed 80-watt power limit, the Ryzen is still faster than Intel's Core i9-13980HX at 150 watts. "

RE : The webcam. I bought a 3070 Strix a couple of years ago and it came with a wired 1080p + Infrared + dual mic array ROG webcam that clips in top of the screen in the box. AFAIK they all come with one.
Also why mention that the extra M2 slot is "weird" because it has a screw to hold it down in place ? Isnt that normal and better than having it flapping about ?

The only thing that sucks about the X3D is that it seems to have worse battery life than its competitors which is a shame. AMD power efficiency is extremely valuable, especially in a laptop.
