Hey everyone,

I'm currently looking at upgrading from my current Samsung U28D590D 28" 4K Monitor. I really dislike the TN panel as I do a lot of photo/video editing and it is really hard to keep consistent colours even with my monitor being calibrated. Now I also play quite a lot of games so I want something that is good for gaming but at the same time is quite accurate with colour specifically 100% srgb and an IPS panel which the Asus Rog Swift's do. My only decision I have to make is to either go with the 2K(1440p) version or the 4K version do I sacrifice the higher refresh rate to stick with 4K or will the 2K still be quite good? Will I notice a considerable difference coming from the Samsung which is 4K down to a 1440p mointor? Or will I not notice it because of the size of the monitor at 27 inches that is really the main factor that's making it a hard decision. Another thing to add my camera does shoot 4k video but I almost always output videos at 1080p anyways so it's really only photos that would benefit from the 4k resolution.

Let me know what you guys think.

Kind Regards,
Daniel

Hey man my specs are:

i7 4820k @3.70GHz
32gb of ram
Nvidia GTX 980ti
Asus Sabertooth x79 motherboard

I've also been reading up about both monitors and the 2k version has 8bit colour where as the 4k version has 10bit colour so basically with the 2k version you're getting better refresh rates but less colour range. I am still unsure if that is a deal breaker for me since I mainly do video editing and not much photo editing. I am mainly looking for monitor that will be good for both my video editing and at the same time for gaming on so colour accuracy is my main concern after doing more research on the two over the resoultion even though I shoot with 4k cameras.

Would 2K still be ok for professional work though at least an upgrade over what I have? I'm not a professional colourist by trade i'm just a freelance videographer so I only do basic colour grading. I'm not sure for one if it is worth paying the extra money for the 4k that might not make a huge difference and then losing out on the gaming benefits. My current monitor is 4K and I have to have all of my UI scaled up which is quite annoying since it is 28 inches but the TN panel is horrible on it which is why I was looking for an IPS one.
