ASUS RT-56U Controlling router remotely

Is there some way to edit the router's settings from a remote location (outside of the router's intranet?) I'd like to be able to reset a router or repeater (each set to 192.168.1.1, .2) and adjust things like time settings remotely.

Some routers support remote managing (that is, you can get their web interface on WAN port).
But from security point of view, your best move is to use VPN into your local network, and from there to access the router / repeater. Of course, the routes has to work for all this to work 😉
