ASUS RT N66U WPA Encryption Issues

I got my ASUS RT N66U 1 year ago and i remember having problems with connecting to it over WiFi, i realized that the WPA was to blame, because when I set the router to "Open System" without a password, my laptop will connect fine but asoon as I enable any WPA my laptop cannot connect to the router but shows it on the list.

I also remember fixing the problem before but me being a idiot, I didn't write the solution down. I reset the router a couple of days ago because I was changing it's purpose (Relay to normal router) and now I get the problem I had before.

I've tried changing the WPA settings to different configs but to no avail.

I know the problem is a router's setting but I am getting a headache trying everything to fix this again.

Firmware is latest stable (non-beta)

The options for Authentication Methods are:

  Open System
  WPA2-Personal
  WPA-Auto-Personal
  WPA2-Enterprise
  WPA-Auto-Enterprise

Non of them fix the problem, except from Open System but I want a password on the network

Just changed 2.4GHz and 5GHz to that and still getting the problem on my laptop.

"Windows is connecting to ASUS"
"Windows is unable to connect to ASUS"

I know it's a setting on the router that needs changing, but forgot which one.

Don't know if this helps but WPA encryption should be set to AES, not TKIP. Also try to see if different channel settings make a difference (although I don't know why they would be affected by adding a security code)

As you can see it's set to AES.

I have also changed the channels to various combinations and nothing seems to work.

Hmm. You seem to have the same settings as me, so I'm a bit stumped. One difference I have noticed is you appear to have an extra tick box for b/g protection, which doesn't even appear in my settings. We have the same version firmware which is odd. I'm assuming the obvious of course in that you've deleted the WPA Pre-Shared Key just so you can share the image...

Have you tried forgetting the network from the laptop end and trying again from scratch? And in the properties section on the laptop does everything match (e.g. does the laptop also say AES and not TKIP)?

see if it helps to change the Channel bandwidth to 20Hz instead of 20/40Hz
