[SOLVED] Asus/ryzen 2600x ssd upgrade, nvme?

I have an asus prime B450 plus with a ryzen 2600x.

Im looking to add another ssd.

Right now there is a 250gb ssd and a 1 tb hdd, both in regular 3.5 case slots with cables.

Id like to replace the 250gb ssd, that has the OS, with a 1tb ssd.

I'm unfamiliar with all this m.2 stuff. Is my system compatible with these new nvme drives? I have some sort of M.2 slot here, but im not sure what will work correctly in that slot.

I cant seem to fully grasp all the nvme compatibility at this point. Also, im not sure if i will ever upgrade the processor in future, but I might, as I believe there better processors for this socket.

Any advice on which new ssd type to buy would be greatly appreciated.

Your M.2 (Socket 3) support any 2242/2260/2280/22110 M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 and M.2 SATA SSD.

If you have the money go for the 970 evo. If you are on a tight budget go for the 665p. Forget the M.2 SATA on the second link and go for one of the NMVe in the first link.

M.2 is a form factor. The NMVe PCIe 3.0 or SATA is the type of connection.

The 2242/2260/2280 and 22110 is the size. A 2280 M.2 is 22mm wide and 80mm in length.

On that board you can use a new Ryzen 5000 CPU or a Ryzen 3000 series so no worry there. You have an upgrade path.

The 970 EVO 1 TB is very popular for a reason...

Rather than the hassles that occur trying to clone and then add NVME drivers afterward, I'd just fresh full reinstall the OS and desired apps/games to the NVME drive. Once you confirm it's working (3000+ MB/sec read/writes on CrystalDiskMark) you can delete the other partitions from the 250 GB SSD and use it for whatever you wish, to include a desitination for a few more games. (Try to leave 200 GB of free space on a 1 TB SSD if possible)
