Firstly, my computer has been working just fine for several months, since I first put it together. Then out of the blue, I started getting random freezes. When I initially built it, I had the same issues, but thanks to some great help here, some BIOS changes fixed the problem.
So, when it started happening again, I figured I'd have another peak in the BIOS.
But...I can't get to it.
I've done everything I could find, but no go. If I just turn the computer on, I see no BIOS splash screen anymore, but the computer still boots up to the desktop.
Holding or repeatedly hitting Del key while booting does nothing. Nor does the F8 key for boot options. Not only that, if I do hit those keys, my computer refuses to boot at all. I have to power back down, and restart.
I'm using Windows 10, and under settings, where you're supposed to be able to boot to BIOS after restart, there is no UEFI BIOS option where it's supposed to be.
I'd read about powering down holding the Shift key, then powering up holding the F2 key...same issue as the Del and F8 keys.
I then cleared the CMOS with the jumper...same issue. Pulled the battery, cleared the CMOS...same issue.
Even though I thought it a long shot, I also played around with RAM sticks, but no configuration seemed to help.
I finally downloaded the most up to date BIOS for my board, and used the flashback utility to update. Everything went as described, but still have the same problem.
Somewhere along the line, I happened to notice that the auxiliary 4-pin power connector was off (the tab broke somehow). Seeing as how my system is a power hog, I made sure it was firmly back in, and so far (fingers crossed), the system is stable again.
However, it's really bothering me that nothing I do seems to get me into the BIOS.
Any thoughts? 😉
EDIT: Sorry, also forgot to mention that this board also has a DirectKey button right on the mainboard, that when clicked, is supposed to take you directly into the BIOS...however, that just seems to power up the board, and then nothing happens, even after the 30 minutes I waited...shutting down and booting normally gets me back into Windows.
